2019 Round 2 Top 6 Finalist

Help Enterprises

Our Women’s Business project empowers Indigenous women to be job ready.

Help Enterprises is committed to enhancing people’s lives through meaningful employment opportunities.

Our ‘Women’s Business’ project empowers Indigenous women who are looking to enter or re-enter the workforce and become job ready through our training program.

The project is run by HELP’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Engagement Team who lead and develop new Indigenous jobseeker engagement strategies.

Through the training we’ll examine and identify immediate and tangible steps to increase employment and training opportunities for Indigenous women in the Greater Brisbane region.

Only 51.5% of Indigenous women participate in the Australia workforce. We believe by minimising the challenges, training and empowering women we will help more women into work.

The ‘Women’s Business’ program is a three day intensive personalised workshop designed to help Indigenous Women to enter/re-enter the workforce. The workshop is designed to build new skills, confidence, and increase Indigenous women’s self-esteem and knowledge.

The workshop will cover financial literacy, identify transferrable skills, whilst also focusing on how to balance family and work commitments, and address each individual’s health and wellbeing. Participants will undertake an Indigenous First Aid Course, interview clothing, shoes, and a hairdressing voucher.

The power of a job can be transformational to Indigenous women, through the provision of not only greater financial independence, but also skills and training that can open up future opportunities. Employment also contributes significantly to people’s health, wellbeing and social outcomes.

A Sunsuper Dreams for a Better World grant would mean we could offer another 5 Indigenous women the opportunity to undertake the intensive personalised ‘Women’s Business’ program. Every $5,000 brings us one step closer to being able to run another session and help another 5 Indigenous women.

We’ve already helped 50+ Indigenous women into employment and our dream is to help even more.
