The Pyjama Foundation recruits and trains volunteers called ‘Pyjama Angels’ who provide one-on-one help for children in foster care with their schoolwork and reading.
Children in foster care often struggle with reading and schoolwork because their education has been disrupted. Bronwyn Sheehan founded The Pyjama Foundation 11 years ago. Her dream was to help these children change the direction of their lives by empowering them with positive relationships, confidence and a love of learning. Today there are Pyjama Angels reading to more than 1,000 foster children in their homes every week and the need for more is growing. Since the foundation began, the number of children in care has doubled.
The Pyjama Foundation is based in Brisbane, and provides services throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
The grant money would be used to screen, recruit and train more Pyjama Angels to visit more foster children in their homes and help empower them with a love of learning.
