$15,000 for unique food relief initiative
When Matthew Donovan first learned that 1 in 10 Australians seek food relief each year and more than a quarter of those people are turned away – he thought “I can do something about this” and founded Food for Change in 2016.
With an inspiring pitch to a panel of judges, Food for Change won second place and $15,000 at Sunsuper’s Dreams for a Better World 2017 Grand Final.
Food for Change’s mission is simple – to grow, rescue and support – so that any Australian can get the food relief they need, at any time. No matter the circumstances.
On borrowed land and with donated seedlings, water and equipment, Matt and his volunteers grew enough fresh produce to make 10,000 meals in just over nine months last year.
After winning a total of $25,000 in grants from Sunsuper’s Dreams for a Better World in 2017, Food for Change will expand their farms and double its output, plus launch an initiative to rescue more food so that any Australian seeking food relief gets the support they need.
