What is Growing Change?

Five years ago Renée Gardiner’s mum lost her life as a result of mental illness. Renée had seen how her mother enjoyed gardening even when she was not well.

As a result, Renée created Growing Change, a 12 week program designed to help people suffering from mental illness through socialisation and skills training. On program completion, participants are given the opportunity to rent a plot in the garden and continue growing food for their own use, or sell to the program’s restaurant customers to gain an income.

Where does Growing Change operate?

Growing Change currently operates in Fremantle, Western Australia.

"Depression and anxiety can lead to the loss of lives for many Australians. Social farming can nurture and feed people back to better health. Growing Change can make our community a better place to live. Please, vote for Growing Change."
— Renée Gardiner, Founder of Growing Change

How would Growing Change use a Dreams for a Better World grant?

The funding would allow Growing Change to create a network of social farming communities across Australia.
