Aunties and Uncles aims to empower socially isolated children aged 1 to 11 years through a mentoring program, allowing them to establish a positive future. The mentor relationship offers each child time, attention, care, stability, guidance and exposure to new experiences and opportunities.
Coordinated by social workers with extensive experience in child welfare and protection, each family is evaluated and volunteers thoroughly screened before matching the most suitable ‘aunty’ and/or ‘uncle’ with a child. Spending quality time with each other, volunteers become a positive influence in the child’s life, with many of the parents and mentors noticing encouraging changes including increased self-confidence, better social skills, and improvements at school.
Aunties and Uncles Queensland helps children within the greater Brisbane and Gold Coast areas.
The funding would allow Aunties and Uncles Queensland to continue to provide vital services to the families currently involved in the program and would help more children to take advantage of it.
