Leveraging the secondhand market to provide work for vulnerable Australians
Thread Harvest is an ethical online fashion marketplace dedicated to raising the profile and impact of Australia's best ethical fashion brands. Through our Second Chance we will tap into the circular economy to increase environmental sustainability and provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities or experiencing homelessness. We will partner with Parramatta Mission Uniting Church, Orange Sky Laundry and Avenue to engage the local community and further support the work they do to tackle homelessness and domestic violence, and advocacy for equal opportunities for all.
Homelessness, Domestic Violence and discrimination against people with disabilities are all prevalent in Parramatta. We deeply care about addressing these issues and have developed a partnership with Parramatta Mission that will directly, positively impact these three key social issues. By leveraging the growing second hand clothing market, we will gather clothing through Parramatta Mission's channels (Churches, schools, clubs and associations) and send this clothing to be processed by our Parramatta based fulfilment partner, Avenue, who provide meaningful employment for people with disabilities within the Parramatta region. These clothes will be washed by our laundering partner, Orange Sky, who support the homeless community of Parramatta by providing meaningful employment and a clothes washing service. Thread Harvest will then sell the product through their extensive online store, sharing the revenue with Parramatta Mission so they can continue their important work of providing crisis accommodation for women and children caught in domestic violence. This whole initiative is about using the strengths of each organisation so that together we have a vast and meaningful impact for the disadvantaged of Parramatta.
The Sunsuper Dreams for a Better World grant will help us implement our Second Chance initiative by setting up our systems, processes and technology to provide meaningful employment and provide ongoing revenue streams for local charities to continue the vital work they do for the Parramatta community.
