2015 Round 4 Top 3 Finalist

Animalia Wildlife shelter and rescue

Animalia Wildlife shelter and rescue cares for and rehabilitates sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. It currently operates in the home and backyard of its founder, Michelle Thomas, at Frankston in Victoria.

Michelle Thomas has rescued and cared for native wildlife for 28 years. Like many wildlife carers in Victoria, she operates her wildlife shelter in her home. The Animalia Wildlife Shelter & Rescue that Michelle founded receives no government funding. Michelle and her team of volunteers provide their services at no cost, because they care deeply about these animals and preserving their populations for generations to come. Michelle estimates that Animalia rehabilitates between 1,500 and 3,000 animals a year, and the need for their services is growing every year.

Animalia operates in the Frankston and Mornington Peninsular region of Victoria. However, Michelle and her team provide advice and assistance to other wildlife services throughout Victoria as well.

Animalia is looking to start a dedicated 24-hour emergency centre to provide care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. The grant would help the organisation to construct this specialist centre.
