Got a question?

What is Sunsuper Dreams for a Better World all about?

Every day, thousands of Australians give up their time to make the world a better place for people and causes close to their hearts. Dreams for a Better World was created to help them and the grassroots causes they work so hard to support. Since the program began in 2011, Sunsuper has helped make more than 80 Dreams for a Better World come true.

How does it work?

  • There are four rounds of Sunsuper Dreams for a Better World, and each round has a different focus.
  • Entrants choose a relevant round to submit their dream for a cause or charity they would like to help.
  • Once submissions for each round closes each quarter, a shortlist of six dreams are selected by the Sunsuper Judging Panel.
  • The six shortlist dreams will be notified by the Sunsuper Dreams Team and provided with a Dreams Toolkit to help the entrant and their community group or charity drum up votes on this website.
  • Once voting closes, the three dreams with the most valid votes will be the round finalists and will receive $5,000 each.
  • The Expert Judging Panel will receive the submissions from the three finalists and using criteria will decide which dream should be named the Round Winner and receive an additional $5000. A video of the winning dream will also be produced by Sunsuper to recognise and celebrate the Round Winner and their cause.
  • At the end of the year, the four Round Winners compete for the People’s Choice Grant by asking the Australian public to vote for their favourite dream. The dream will the most valid votes will receive the People’s Choice $10,000 grant at the Grand Final Awards Night.
  • The winner of each round goes on to the annual awards event, where the grand final winner is announced.

How is the prize pool allocated?

$5,000 is granted to the three finalists for each round with the highest number of valid public votes in their round. An additional $5,000 is given to the Round Winner chosen by the Expert Judging Panel. The four round winners will then each be allocated further grants of $30,000, $15,000, $10,000 or $5,000 depending on where they are placed overall at the Grand Final Awards Night. An Additional $10,000 grant will be awarded to the People’s Choice recipient.

How could I receive up to $50,000 in grants for my dream?

  • If your dream meets the guidelines, is shortlisted and your dream is one-of-three to get the most votes on this website, you will be a Round Finalist. As a Round Finalist you receive a $5,000 grant towards your dream.
  • If you impress the judges with your submission and your dream is chosen as the Round Winner, you will receive another $5,000 grant towards the cause you care about.
  • At the end of the year the Round Winners from each quarter will compete for the People’s Choice grant, by asking the Australian public to vote for their dream. If you receive the most valid votes your dream will receive an additional $10,000 grant.
  • Impress the judges one last time at the pitch event before the Grand Final Awards Night and your dream could be chosen as the annual Dreams for a Better World Winner and receive the $30,000 Grand Final grant.

Can anyone vote for dreams?

Why is voting restricted?

We want all entrants to have a fair go. So we’ve put these rules in place to ensure the voting process is equitable and to reduce the chance of manipulation.

At the end of each round, all votes are checked thoroughly by our team. The three finalists with the most valid votes will receive $5,000.

If my dream is not chosen as a finalist, can I enter it or a new dream in a later round?

Yes you can. Your dream may be more relevant to another round, or a new dream might impress our judges more, so please feel free to enter another round.

What is the People’s Choice Grant?

At the end of the four rounds, all four winners will be eligible to receive the People’s Choice Grant. The Australian public will be asked to vote for their favourite dream and the Round Winner with the most valid votes will receive another $10,000 grant. The Round Winners can drum up votes using their end-of-round video and the Dreams Toolkit. All Round Winners are eligible to receive this grant, regardless of where the dream is placed overall by the Grand Final Judging Panel at the Awards Night.

What happens at the grand final?

All four round winners will be invited to be the guests of honour at our Grand Final Awards Night, where the annual winner and runners-up will be announced and the major grants awarded. We will also announce the People’s Choice grant.
